Martin Gott

Martin Gott is the cheesemaker behind St James; produced from raw ewe’s milk at his farm on the Holker Estate in Cumbria. Having initially trained as a butcher , Martin made the decision to pursue his passion for cheese thanks to a chance meeting with famed cheesemaker James Aldridge – who he later named his cheese after.
Martin learnt the fundamentals of cheesemaking during his time working for the Kirkham family in Lancashire, before re-locating to Sleight Farm in Somerset to work with renowned goats cheese maker Mary Holbrook. In 2004 Martin began developing his own ewe's milk cheeses and later moved his flock of sheep to the Holker Estate, where he has been producing the seasonal St James cheese ever since
