Take a culinary journey back through time, joining food historian Ivan Day to create a selection of pies spanning the centuries.
Take a culinary journey back through time with this informative course combining food history with practical pie-making, led by food historian, broadcaster and writer Ivan Day.
This one-day course will give you the opportunity to practise long-forgotten cookery techniques and learn more about the history of this iconic British food.
Ivan will share knowledge acquired during decades of research and bring along treasures from his collection of antiquarian cookery books and culinary utensils. He will then help you to create a selection of your own pies using recipes dating back hundreds of years, such as lumber pie, venison pasties, and raised Victorian ornamented pies.
No prior pie making experience is necessary; just enthusiasm and a willingness to work alongside other food lovers.
At the School of Artisan Food we make a conscious effort to reduce waste and packaging, so encourage you to bring your own containers to transport your pies home.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day, as well as lunch, freshly prepared by our catering team.
All ingredients, equipment and recipes will be provided on the day.
