Silk Road Cooking with Eleanor Ford

Join renowned food writer Eleanor Ford for a day of discovery, exploring the exotic flavours found in the cities along the Silk Roads, the ancient trade routes connecting East and West.

As a cook who loves to travel, Eleanor’s ethos as a food writer is to make world cuisines accessible, capturing adventurous flavours and spices in recipes expertly adapted for the home cook. Under Eleanor’s guidance, together you’ll recreate dishes from her award-winning book Samarkand – Recipes and Stories from Central Asia and the Caucasus. She will also share authentic recipes and fascinating insight drawn from her travels around this diverse region.

This hands-on one-day course will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to create delicious Silk Road inspired food at home. You’ll make dishes including:

  • Hot and tingly hand-torn noodles from Xian
  • Almond milk chicken with saffron and dates from Venice
  • Green-herbed plov with chickpeas from Samarkand
  • Spiced Turkish flatbreads from Istanbul
  • Tarragon soda and ayran to drink

Each dish can either be enjoyed at the School or taken home. The School of Artisan Food makes a conscious effort to reduce waste and packaging. Students are encouraged to bring their own containers to transport their food home.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day. All ingredients, equipment and recipes will be provided.
