Role Description

Based on the Welbeck Estate in North Nottinghamshire, The School of Artisan Food is a unique food education provider, attracting students and customers from around the world to a wide range of food production courses. The School of Artisan Food is a registered charity and, as a not-for-profit institution, is committed to providing the widest possible access to its facilities.

Course Technicians at The School of Artisan Food play a central role in the successful delivery of practical food education. Working closely with tutors, students and colleagues, they support the delivery of world-class short courses, higher education programmes, commercial training, events and charitable activities. Course Technicians help to create safe, welcoming and highly organised learning environments across The School’s specialist training spaces. The role is physically demanding and includes long shifts on foot, lifting and moving ingredients and equipment, setting up and resetting training spaces and undertaking routine and deep-cleaning activities.

The Butchery, BBQ and Dairy Room Lead has particular responsibility for The School’s specialist training environments. Supporting delivery across artisan butchery, charcuterie, BBQ, smoking, curing and cheese-making, the postholder acts as the primary technician for the specialist training rooms, ensuring they remain safe, efficient, professionally presented and ready to support outstanding teaching and learning. The Butchery, BBQ and Dairy Room Lead works closely with butchery, BBQ, charcuterie and dairy tutors and colleagues to maintain consistently high professional standards for practical food education.

At times Course Technicians will work flexibly across multiple food production disciplines. Technicians may support activities involving members of the public, food professionals, higher education students, secondary school pupils and participants in community and charitable programmes.
