Claire Monk

Originally from Suffolk, Claire moved to Sheffield to study microbiology at Sheffield University.
After graduating, Claire wanted to use her degree but didn't want to be based in a lab, so with her love for real ale (courtesy of her dad), brewing seemed like a natural choice.
Claire started with a week long placement at Kelham Island Brewery in January 2010. After a week outside in the snow cleaning casks and learning to brew, they offered her a job once she finished university. The job was to help brew at the new Welbeck Abbey Brewery which was a joint venture between Welbeck Estate and Kelham Island Brewery. Claire helped set up the brewery in 2011, and we now have over 350 customers and make up to 17,000 pints a week.
In her (limited!) spare time Claire is the treasurer of the Welbeck WI and enjoys church bell ringing.
